Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom Teeth: To Extract or Not?
The third molars found at the very back of the mouth are known as wisdom teeth. They are normally the last set that erupts when a person is 17 years or older. Properly positioned and healthy wisdom teeth do not cause problems. However, if they are impacted, due to lack of space in the dental arch or overlaying bone, gum or tooth, they could instigate oral infections.
Essentially, wisdom teeth are extracted for two reasons: either they have already become impacted, or could become potentially problematic if not extracted. Problems likely to be caused by the presence of wisdom teeth include: infections due to food particles trapped behind the teeth, misalignment that rubs against the cheek or tongue, potential crowding, malocclusion of the remaining teeth, pain, as well as the need for orthodontics.
Bittner Family Dental Group utilizes state-of-the-art technology to extract wisdom teeth in a manner that aids in rapid healing with minimal discomfort.
