Fruit juices have been found to be one of the leading culprits for "dental erosion" and childhood obesity.  It has also been found that fruit juice is "absolutely unnecessary" for children under 1.  After 16 years the AAP has updated their guidance on the amount of juice children should consume.  The new guidelines are:

  1. Children under 1 year old:  No juice
  2. Toddlers 1 to 3 years old:  No more than 4 ounces of juice per day
  3. Children between 4 and 6:  No more than 4-6 ounces of juice per day
  4. Children and adolescents between 7 and 18:  No more than 8 ounces of juice per day
